The name Kausheyam, lovingly given by our founder's father, is derived from the Sanskrit word Kausheya, meaning "silk." It reflects the richness, purity, and elegance that remain at the heart of everything we create.

Meet the Founder
Kausheyam Banaras was born from a lifelong love for Banarasi sarees and a belief that tradition should evolve with the women who wear it.
Founder Saumya Singh grew up in Banaras, where handloom weaving wasn't just a craft—it was a part of everyday life. Surrounded by the timeless beauty of Banarasi sarees, she developed a deep appreciation for their artistry, heritage, and the stories woven into every piece.
Although she pursued Mechanical Engineering and later built a successful career in fashion as a Femina Miss India Finalist, model, and actor, sarees remained her greatest inspiration. Working with leading fashion and lifestyle brands gave her a unique understanding of styling, storytelling, and how clothing can transform confidence.
During the lockdown, while revisiting her mother's treasured Banarasi sarees, she realized something was missing. The beauty of these heirlooms was undeniable, yet many women admired them without knowing how to style them for today's world. That realization became the foundation of Kausheyam Banaras.
Unlike traditional saree brands, Saumya doesn't simply design collections—she curates complete looks. Every saree is personally styled, draped, photographed, and brought to life by her before it reaches a customer. From pairing it with corsets, waistcoats, jackets, and statement blouses to sharing styling inspiration, draping ideas, and complete fashion guidance, she ensures every piece feels effortless to wear and relevant to the modern wardrobe.
